Welcome to our newest member of the Eyewear Cartel - Rolf Spectacles

A small, family-run business situated in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps, ROLF Spectacles produces hand-made, lightweight wood eyeglass frames.

For ROLF’s line of wooden eyewear the research and development team has created a new and innovative hinge and utilize the optimized ROLF-lens-system.

The new joint’s high quality and functionality allow for easy and safe handling. Moreover it unites all the mechanical properties of a high-quality spectacle hinge: during opening and closing, an integrated mechanism prevents the temple from closing on its own and holds it in the right position. The hinge is screw-less and maintenance-free.

ROLF-lens-system: A special nylon, which goes through drilled holes, fixes the lens smoothly without warming and cutting the eyeglass frame. The advantages: the closed eyeglass frame provides more stability!

ROLF eyewear frame is produced completely out of a natural material and without any metal parts. Our aim is to set new trends in design and to turn new and innovative ideas for spectacles into reality.

ROLF was founded by Roland Wolf and Marija Iljazovic, who both apply their extensive experience and knowledge of various branches of the optometrist’s field to this project. ROLF‘s team also includes the founder‘s siblings, Christian Wolf, Martin Iljazovic and Bernhard Wolf who further contribute to the developmental process through their knowledge in technology, architecture and design. The company is situated in the small Tyrolean village of Höfen, where the spectacles are hand-crafted and then shipped to destinations around the globe. ROLF spectacles are worldwide available at selected opticians.

“With loving attention to detail and bold use of innovative techniques, ROLF makes each frame a unique, one-of-a-kind, piece of eyewear.“

theo by Tim Van Steenbergen presents: Los Santos

Sunglasses that evoke the colors of the Spanish fiestas patronales

The fact that the theo by Tim Van Steenbergen sunglasses could be stunning in black-and-white was amply demonstrated by the limited Hierro collection. For spring and summer, theo has something else in mind entirely. And what did you expect; it’s all about color of course. The front in acetate contrasts with the plastic or metal – depending on the model – temples. The ZEISS sunglass lenses provide optimal protection for the eyes. And for the first time, theo is also including polarized lenses in the collection. Of the eight color combinations available per model, 2 come with polarized lenses.

Colourful ‘fiestas patronales’

Every Spanish village or town holds an extravagant annual festival for the local patron saint. The scene is set especially by the colorful costumes, flowers, balloons and a variety of market stalls that bring the street to life! And theo always loves a good party! So it was high time to apply this riot of color to the latest theo by Tim Van Steenbergen sunglasses. What better names could theo choose for the six models than those of Spanish patron Saints?

Summer collection Tim Van Steenbergen

The spring/summer 2012 clothing collection contains much more color that we are used to from Tim. Bright green trousers, bright blue details and colored areas that contrast with each other. The 1920s (Bauhaus) and the 1980s (Dr. Martens in all kinds of colors) are strikingly present. This is also expressed in the glasses collection. Especially in the combination decorative vs. tough, mat vs. shiny or a decorative element next to a solid color.

MYKITA 2012 Spring/Summer “Oversize & Round” Collection

German eyewear manufacturer, MYKITA, continues its spring/summer range with the release of the “Oversize & Round” Collection. Known for fusing technical innovation with traditional styling, the nearly decade-old brand looks to cater its design to the current trend of oversized and/or round frames. The first offering, DEVENDRA, is a stainless steel, unisex model featuring large, square-shaped lenses encompassed in a deep-set frame with a slightly curved top line. The collection is rounded off with the PHOBE model, which simply includes two circle lenses fitted inside a steel frame, a style popularized by the late John Lennon. Each piece from the “Oversize & Round” Collection will be available in both Pale Blue or Rose colored frames.
